L'Officiel Arabia: What are your favourite parts about your job?
Amy Jackson: As an Aquarius, creativity, spontaneity and freedom all play important roles in my life, and acting encourages all of those aspects. Having the opportunity to travel all over the world and challenge myself by inhabiting the minds of different characters on a daily basis is food for my soul.
LOA: What can fans expect to see on your channel in the next months?
AJ: The pandemic has truly changed my perspective on life and although health and wellness have always been a hot topic for me, I’ve had actually had the time to sit back and listen to what my mind, body and soul really need. After living and working in India for over a decade, I was introduced to Ayurveda and over the last year I’ve incorporated certain aspects of this system into my daily routine. I’m planning to share the benefits of an Ayurvedic way of life through my social platforms, with the wish to support and inspire my followers in what currently feels like a breeding ground for self doubt and low self esteem. I feel that Instagram is especially damaging to teenage girls. We are seeing a drastic increase in mental health issues that include depression, self hate and body dysmorphia, and I feel that anyone with a social media following has a duty to protect impressionable teens by using their platform in a positive way.
I'm also a huge advocate for animal welfare and I want to raise as much awareness as possible for causes that are extremely close to my heart. As an ambassador for the Elephant Family as well as PETA, I've been campaigning against African trophy hunting alongside enforcing a solid global ivory ban - and there’s a lot more of that to come!
LOA: What advice do you wish you had been given when you started out in the industry?
AJ: Don’t take it personally! Acting is an intense career path, with a lot of rejection, unpredictable work schedules, strained relationships - all with the fear that you peaked in your last role. After ten years in the industry it’s only recently that I’ve mastered peace of mind and self assurance, and I created this mindset by honouring my own personal passion projects - away from the industry - that I’m in full control of.
LOA: What are you most proud of out of your work over the past few years?
AJ: Playing Saturn Girl in DC Comics' ‘Supergirl'. It was a heavily female-centric cast with strong, empowering storylines. Playing the lead female role in ‘2.0’ which was India’s biggest budget film to date was also an honour. Aside from acting roles, it's always been a dream of mine to give a TED talk and when the opportunity arose, I chose to give mine on animal conservation and called it ‘A Voice for the Voiceless'.
LOA: What’s in the future for Amy?
AJ: Although I’m not allowed to go into too much detail right now, I’ve just finished shooting my first Hollywood film! It’s funny because two years ago, I had literally covered half my inspiration board with the director’s previous films, hoping that one day I’d get a chance to be a part of one of his projects, so it’s really a dream come true! It will be released at the end of this year.
