L'Officiel Arabia: When did you decide to be a content creator?
Diipa Büller-Khosla: I’ve never really seen myself as an ‘public figure’, it all started very organically for me when I realized my passion for social media, fashion, and beauty. Six years later, I feel nothing but blessed to have such a strong platform that attracts tons of positivity from so many directions.
Being a content creator holds a hefty sum of responsibilities to portray the morally and ethically right choices as there’s 1.6 Million people looking up to you. It definitely gives me the opportunity to bring attention to matters that truly matter in our society, as well as share the light-hearted content that people love to see.
My goal has always been to spread love and give empowerment to both women and men, Desi originated or not, to truly love themselves and embrace their identity in its entirety.I believe that this platform allows me to voice out my opinions about a variety of topics, good or bad, and gives my audience a chance to learn or share their views - almost like an on-going lesson.
LOA: Who has inspired you the most in your life?
DBK: Needless to say my own mom has been my inspiration since I was a young girl, to when I developed into a fully grown adult. She has always shown my siblings and I what it means to be a powerful yet loving woman – something I’ve always aspired to be. I’ve always turned to my mom for advice throughout my life. She has taught me so many life-lessons that I’ve learnt to embrace into my own daily life.
I looked up to her as she graced through life with a smile on her face, and shoulders held high despite any struggles she faced. When younger, I’d take any opportunity to learn what she had to teach. I have fond memories of sitting on the kitchen counter and watching her cook, taking mental notes so that I could one day be able to recreate her infamous recipes.
Simple actions like these are embedded in my memory as it was a time of ease and where our mother-daughter bond grew stronger each day.
LOA: Have you ever been to the UAE? If yes, how was your experience?
DBK: Yes, have been to the UAE - Dubai specifically! I had the most amazing time visiting the city, full of excitement … and of course the heat. Our schedule was packed with adventure and things to do from the moment we touched down. I got to meet up with friends I had not seen in the longest of times, shop during Dubai’s fashion Festival… and I mean Shopping. The best part of the experience was definitely viewing Dubai’s beautiful skyline from a private lagoon we had stayed at. Apart from that, what stood out was really going into the history of Dubai’s culture and heritage during a beautiful boat ride in Old Dubai.
As I’m writing this I have actually booked my upcoming flight with Etihad back to Abu Dhabi. I’m coming back to see the F1 and I cannot wait to see what this city has to offer.
LOA: Which brands are you associated with?
DBK: There are various brands that I adore and associate with, reason being that I love their ethic, style, and overall vibe. Some of the brands dear to my heart (& I work with on a regular Basis!) are the ones I’m wearing for this shoot specifically - Louis Vouitton, Christian Dior…
Nevertheless I love uplifting new and upcoming designers. One of my favorites is Benchellal. I got introduced to him 2 years ago and I’m absolutely obsessed with his gowns. No wonder he won the Arabia Fashion Trust Award, well deserved!
Last but not least, designers from my home country, India, have a special place in my heart. I love the diversity of styles that can be found, From Sabyasachi lehengas that I wore for my wedding to Karpadara Sari’s that I wore during my pregnancy, I will never get sick looking at the beautiful craftsmanship of my country. I’m also obesessen with the new generation of Indian designers emerging and re-inventing Indian fashion in their own way such as Priya Alhuwalia, Supriya Lele amd Namita Khade. I’m so excited to see what they will create in the future and i’m sure they are going to take the Fashion World by storm.
LOA: Are you connected to any charity groups?
DBK: As you may know, together with my husband, we have founded an NGO known as ‘Post for Change’. Here we dedicate our campaigns towards causes such as equality for women, sexual rights, and mental health. We’ve worked with organizations such as UNICEF, UN Women, HeForShe, and Selfridges.Co, all in the support of various causes and charities. One of my most recent outreach was towards ‘Desai Foundation’ whose mission is to enrich the lives of women and children in both the US and India, through improving living standards.
LOA: What next for Diipa?
DBK: I’m constantly working on something new! However, I just launched a brand so most of my future plans and ambitions revolve around the future of indē wild. It feels so surreal that a project that has been in the making for two years, is finally live and out there in the world.
The goal I’ve always had in mind was to give people something that was designed for them and tailored to their needs and wants. At indē wild, we have this saying that goes ‘A conscious and holistic beauty ecosystem, created by Diipa Khosla & co-founded by you.’ – What we mean is that we listened to all the requests and testaments of people globally, who suffer from skin issues as well as a lack of education on the topic, and representation in the industry.
We took these heartfelt messages and needs into account whenever making a move further in the creation of the brand. We want both women and men to feel as though someone, almost like an older sister, is there to guide them through a brighter version of themselves- boosting their confidence and pride to be who they organically are.
