This February, leading lifestyle brand GANT reclaimed the preppy style, a look it pioneered 70 years ago, with the launch of its SS22 collection, across all GANT stores in the region. This season GANT calls out to the escapists longing for travel and the free spirits of oceanic sailing through its bold and dynamic shapes.
Coastal living is in the GANT DNA and this season the collection’s nautical heritage gets a 70s spin - think classic maritime meets bohemian sensuality and retro references such as flared denim, cognac leather and suede jackets mixed with the signature sportswear icons such as Breton and block stripes, preppy borders and piping, heavy ruggers and polo collars, gold buttons and for women, pleated skirts. Worth mentioning is a hero beautifully drawn sailing print with boating elements this SS22, think ropes and oars, fresh, bold tartan, flag patterns and upscaled eclectic regatta motifs.
The iconic 70s influence also means a slight shift in silhouette. In parallel to loose and relaxed fits, there is a return to more slender and fitted shapes and the revival of the archival story of “Rough Weather”, which appears as a capsule with a strong connection to this season’s seaside story.
The nautical theme sets the tone for the SS22 palette. The base of colors include blue, whites and cream, furthermore, camels and brown lay the ground and are used together with retro green, signal red, sunny yellow and preppy accents of pink and turquoise. Washed shades of denim also add a vintage vibe to the range.
This season, there is a special focus on the basics, think minimalistic and refreshing bits to make a better fit for the bolder and braver pieces in the collection. This drop also sees the launch of a new solid jersey capsule called the ‘Icon G Essentials’, identified by the small diamond crest sewn onto the chest. The capsule, featured in both the men’s and women’s collections, will offer a modern silhouette, and tap into the popular jersey trend.
