What was your journey like from being an aeronautical scientist to pioneering the online gifting industry?
Embarking on an exciting journey driven by innovation and purpose, I've crafted a diverse career path touching upon aeronautical science, angel investing and tech entrepreneurship. My passion lies in implementing technology for apt solutions which lead me to establish IGP as a global player in the gifting industry.
What is the online gifting market in the UAE like?
From our research and experience, the gifting landscape in the UAE is unique in its own way. Several cultural factors and norms drive the gifting culture- and our teams have been very cognizant in trying to approach the product portfolio with sensitivity and adhering to all norms.
What has been your brand’s biggest success story so far?
Growing from 8-10 team to over 1100 employees marks a colossal achievement, reflecting exceptional leadership, strategic prowess, and significant economic impact. This milestone underscores effective scalability, job creation, and supporting local artisans showcases the profound influence of our company on individuals and the broader community.
I am also very pleased to say that our pursuit for excellence has been very rewarding, as we have been named the Best D2C brand in gifting for 3 consecutive years (and counting) and have even become a Guinness World Records Holder.
How does IGP plan to expand its presence in the MENA region beyond the UAE?
IGP boasts a global presence in 150+ countries across the globe and provides lucrative services like 30-min delivery across India. Our offices in UAE and Singapore also support our global delivery network.
Additionally, IGP has created a state-of-the-art 20,000 square feet facility in the heart of Dubai and will look at opening similar facilities in the MENA region.
How do you ensure the quality and freshness of your products, especially for items like flowers and cakes?
Recognizing the importance of automation in streamlining our operations has always been the key performer to enhance efficiency. By investing in automation for inbound, internal handling, and outbound processes, we aim to minimize human involvement while improving the overall quality control and timely delivery of products. We also utilize temperature controlled logistics and individual product barcodes to ensure the most efficient and sustainable usage of products and raw materials.
What is your prediction for the growth of this industry the future?
The e-commerce landscape in the UAE has strong tailwinds. Given the increase in migrated population in the UAE and preference for convenience, over 70% of people in the UAE are going to continue ordering online. This is expected to deliver over 30% growth p.a. to the online ecosystem in the UAE over the next 3-5 years.
