When it comes to physical activity, there’s a major misconception amongst many females that lifting weights will have them end up looking like a bodybuilder with bulging muscles and swollen biceps. However, that is nowhere near true. In fact, avoiding weight training exercises can lead to missing out on numerous incredible health benefits such as maintaining a well-toned physique.
Celebrity trainer, transformational mentor and Founder of Transform Your Body (TYB), Yasir Khan, emphasises that lifting weights can help women build strong and dense muscles for that much-wanted toned look. Here’s how.
How To Start Lifting Weights And Not Look Bulky
· Start with the basics: squats, lunges, overhead presses, lateral raises, etc.
· Begin with a weight that you can comfortably do three to four sets of, making sure the last set is slightly challenging (but not causing pain)
· Don’t over complicate it and stay consistent. Do not overwhelm your muscles with sudden intensity and give your body time to normalise each workout
· Continue to increase the time under tension, and easily begin to challenge your muscles, they will get stronger with each workout
