“Ride is a verb of movement and recalls the sense of power

The &Co.llaboration capsules are a celebration of the MAX&Co. ethos of togetherness. An ongoing part of the MAX&Co. story, friends of the brand — from established names to emerging talents — are invited to collaborate on limited-edition, seasonal capsules, putting their own spin on the house’s distinct codes. A contemporary fashion brand MAX&Co. is loved for its original, versatile and carefully made collections, worn by stylish women on the go around the world.
The latest chapter in &Co.llaboration series is created in partnership with the fashion designer Efisio Rocco Marras.
Class of 1992, born and raised in Alghero, Sardinia, Efisio earned his high school diploma in his hometown, where he had been continuously inspired and influenced by the local culture and the artistic traits of his family. In 2011 he moved to Paris to attend the Parsons School of Design. During the four-year course Efisio had the chance to enrich his university experience with a series of courses: he studied creative writing at Central Saint Martins in London and spent a semester at the Temple University of Tokyo focusing on Japanese filmography. Back in Paris, in June 2015 he graduated in Photography and Liberal Arts. In January 2016 he moved to New York, where he had the opportunity of working as studio assistant with the famous photographer Mario Sorrenti. A year later he came back to Italy where he took part in the organization of his father’s runway show and exhibition at the Triennale di Milano. Soon after, Efisio became the creative director of “I’M Isola Marras”, the contemporary line of Antonio Marras, bringing in a completely new vision and fresh approach. Efisio presents “I’M Isola Marras” as a place not solely rooted in the traditions of Sardinia, but rather as a conceptual island where a diversity of young creative minds come together. Reaching around the globe to draw influences from French cinema to the Japanese manga, Efisio’s ‘Isola’ collection reflects on how life and generations move forward to create new communities. In 2019 he was featured in Forbes most promising future fashion leaders 30 under 30.
For the collection “Pony Ride” in &Co.llaboration series, Efisio — himself a keen rider — took inspiration from photographer Perry Ogden’s 1999 book, Pony Kids, which documented members of the Irish Traveller community with their horses. This, coupled with his research in the MAX&Co. archives was the starting point for the dynamic collection which takes classic, functional designs and disrupts them with a playful, forward-thinking spirit.
“The capsule title – Pony Ride – encapsulates an active and dynamic taste, typical of the MAX&Co. woman, who is strong, energetic and always on the move. ‘Ride’ is a verb of movement and recalls the sense of power and fun which I personally experienced when designing the collection.” — explains the designer.
An earthy palette and traditional plaids are lit up with surprising jolts of fuchsia and acid green. Dresses and jackets – with built-in vests – play with the conventions of womenswear and menswear. A free spirit defines the attitude of the pieces; at the core of the collection is an equal appreciation for function and fashion.
The collection is available in the Dubai Mall store.
