L’Officiel Arabia: Tell us more about your new single “Nadmana”?
Ghita Lahmamssi:
“Nadmana” is more than a single for me, it is a message that I wanted to shout-out loud, throughout my career I have released several songs… But “Nadmana” is part of me it is an experience I am living on behalf of thousands and millions of women, “Nadmana” is a stand against “Violence Against Women”, in the 21st century and after what we have been through worldwide since the breakout of Covid-19 which we thought has reset our human values, there is still battered women inside our houses.

LOA: How and when did you decide to support the cause of violence against women?
GL:
It is nothing that a person decides, I came across several cases of violence against women, from domestic violence to psychological violence. It just did not seem right, so I decided to support this cause and use the influence I have as an artist to deliver this message. It is nothing to do with me being a woman, it is doing the right thing and giving voice to the voiceless. It is a call to everyone to stand by this cause, regardless of their gender.

LOA: This is a very sensitive and personal topic, how do you intend to influence women to come out and speak up?
GL:
Yes, it is, but it is more harmful physically and psychologicaly. This has to change. Every person has the right to feel safe at home, everyone has the right to decide their future. My voice is the voice of everyone who sees this wrong, and I encourage them to stand and shout out with me. In Arabic “Nadmana” means “I regret”, the song says it all, visually supported by a creative expressive film clip by director Tareq Ibrahim filmed in Dubai this month. “Nadmana” is just one tool in the support of this cause and I am sure that my voice will be heard by many men and women, and they will have to find the courage and the way to support this cause and defend it.

“Our goal is to spread the awareness

to prevent such actions and

tell women that if they experience such

acts of violence there is someone for them,

women must not be shy to find help

and tell their story to the specialists

who can help them in overcoming

the results of violence.”

LOA: Which association are you working with to support this cause? How did you get to know about this association?
GL:
L’AMFEV is the association that am working with, based in Morocco and they have been supporting this cause for a long time. They help women, and give them all the need support after they experience incidents of violence. From my point of view, spreading awareness is as important as dealing with the results of violence against women. When I started the project I was looking for an association that helps those women, and I found L’AMFEV. Our goal is to spread the awareness to prevent such actions and tell women that if they experience such acts of violence there is someone for them, women must not be shy to find help and tell their story to the specialists who can help them in overcoming the results of violence.
