Just as Yves Saint Laurent drew his inspiration from masculine garments to reinvent women’s wardrobes, YVES SAINT LAURENT BEAUTÉ has created compositions showcasing an unexpected match of contrasting ingredients that achieve a perfect balance, reflecting the couturier’s personality. Each fragrance dresses the skin, revealing a different, distinctive trail on every person who wears it.

Today, YVES SAINT LAURENT BEAUTÉ’s edgy couture perfumery collection introduces a bold new addition to its elegant Vestiaire, inspired by Saint Laurent’s sexiest print: BABYCAT, a feline blend of sensual suede accord and balmy vanilla that puts the purr into couture perfumery.

BABYCAT Bold and provocative

It’s rock. It’s couture. Forever iconic. A provocative classic.

No one has gone wilder for the sensual feline flair of the leopard print than Yves Saint Laurent. It was first sighted in the couturier’s collections on a silk dress in 1968. Since then, from the iconic Fall/Winter 1982-1983 couture collection to today’s cult designs, Saint Laurent’s sexy signature pattern has prowled its way onto evening dresses, pussy-bow blouses, killer stilettos and countless covetable accessories, even pussyfooting its way into men’s wardrobes.

The iconic pattern projects a captivating blend of regal elegance and simmering seduction. To translate its endless versatility and irresistible appeal into fragrance, what better than the most delectable note of perfumery, vanilla, enhanced by the animal magnetism of suede?

BABYCAT Suede accord and Vanilla

In pure, sexy Saint Laurent fashion, BABYCAT’s couture vanilla purrs. But it’s also got claws, sheathed in
glamorous, fur-soft suede gloves.

The inspiration for BABYCAT, the celebrated Master Perfumer Dominique Ropion reveals, was a uniquely faceted, intense vanilla extract: vanilla Bourbon infusion, sustainably sourced from Madagascar and crafted for YSL Beauty to yield the full-bodied richness of the couture material.

“I wanted to emphasize the leathery nuance naturally found in vanilla and to work the perfume around the contrast between this aspect and the gourmand character of the ingredient”, Dominique Ropion explains. “The suede blended in with the vanilla brings to my mind a delicious complementarity. They combine with one another, playing with each other with creamy, sensual and warm facets."

In BABYCAT, the pod of the vanilla orchid remembers that, like the leopard, it is a creature of wild nature. To magnify its dark side and tease out its claws, the Master Perfumer created a sensual, enveloping suede accord combining exotic spices and sizzling resins with cutting-edge.

Precious saffron accord accents the leathery facets of vanilla. Two different extractions of olibanum (the tree gum that yields incense) warm the blend. “Like vanilla, olibanum is two-faced: fresh and citrusy but also warm and ambery”, Dominique Ropion points out.

The essences of elemi – a lemon-scent resin –, along with black and pink pepper, add texture to the composition, extending the leather accord from top to base notes, for an exceptionally long-lasting, potent trail…

Like the feline print that inspired it, le Vestiaire’s new offering takes you for a walk on the wild side. Yield to its untameable essence. Unleash your inner feline…
