YOU RECENTLY GOT MARRIED, HOW CAN YOU DESCRIBE SUCH AN IMPORTANT EVENT IN YOUR LIFE?

It was such a beautiful ceremony! Considering the circumstances we were put in with this pandemic, it was spent amongst close family members in a very private event. I’m very grateful, first of all, to find the man of my dreams who happens to be my best friend! I feel like it made my life feel complete, more fulfilled in some way to be spending it with someone who has such great love, support and respect for you and your dreams.

TELL US ABOUT THE WEDDING, WHERE DID YOU CELEBRATE AND HOW LONG HAD YOU BEEN PLANNING FOR IT?

The wedding was at first planned to be a huge celebration where everyone we know, friends and family, can attend however, due to the current situation it was more appropriate to have a private ceremony to celebrate love on such a beautiful day, as the day of our wedding marks our one year anniversary together, so it was just magical. I really don’t know how else to explain it, but I don’t think anything prepares you for such a day. There was so much excitement and love and joy in the room!

PLEASE COULD YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA STORY. WHEN DID YOU FIRST DECIDE TO BECOME A FULL-TIME BLOGGER AND FOCUS ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS? HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT IT AT THE TIME?

I started off as a makeup artist actually. I used to workshops, focused on makeup, and used to share these workshops online, different makeup looks and tricks. When I noticed that I started to build myself a following, I kind of slowly started to share more of my daily life with posts on Instagram. I built a small community that gradually starting turning into a bigger following in such a small amount of time. This opened up opportunities for me and exposed me to brands, companies and I just built my relationship with them and grew from there on my own platform, The Real Fouz. Mind you, at the time I was still working in a university with a full-time job, so it was hard to balance both my fulltime job and my online career that was growing so fast. Took me some time, but I took the decision to quit my job and pursued my career in social media and it was the best decision I ever made.

LO: How have your Moroccan roots inspired your jewelry designs?

MLB: My Moroccan roots played a huge part in my brand identity, since my best selling collections were inspired by a royal and powerful country such as: emblem of Morocco, vintage nostalgia and crown collections.

LO: Which celebrities have worn your designs yet?

MLB: I am so happy and proud that my brand attracted the attention from the most trendy International and Arab celebrities like Kim Kardashian, my friend Saad Lamjarred, Haifa Wehbe, Nadine Njeim, Cyrine Abed El Nour, Assala, Angham and many more.

LO: How has the pandemic affected you and how are you coping with it?

MLB: As we all know the COVID-19 is affecting all people in a negative way not only economically but even mentally. In the end life goes on and we have to stay positive and strong, the most important thing is to take all the precautions and stay safe.

WHICH HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE FASHION CAMPAIGNS AND WHY?

Favourite? That is a little bit hard to pick at this point given the amount of years I have been working in this industry. I have been very lucky to be able to work with so many incredible brands and on so many amazing campaigns. I love attending fashion week with brands, just recently attended Oscar de la Renta and Zadig and Voltaire. I was also the first Middle Easterner to launch a lipstick with MAC. Just recently worked with Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, Gucci and many more. It is always exciting and such an honor for me to be able to work with such incredible brands. I never thought my platforms would blow up and expose me to amazing brands that I personally am a huge fan of and was a consumer before anything else.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PARTS ABOUT YOUR JOB?

My favorite part about my job is how I managed to build an online family that shows me so much love and so much support, from ALL around the world! If it wasn’t for this continued love and support, I wouldn’t have been able to take a next step in my career and launch two businesses for myself that are incredibly successful: My beauty salon and my beauty brand, ByFouz Beauty. Having positive feedback online always encourages you to do more things and to explore new ideas, and nothing is ever enough! You are always wanting to challenge yourself. And I always love a good competition!

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT TO SEE ON YOUR CHANNEL IN THE NEXT MONTHS?

For myself, I am more geared up into shifting my direction into more lifestyle content. I have found great success in beauty and I think it is time to explore myself online and show people the different shades of Fouz. I have some incredible big campaigns coming up that I cannot disclose at the time being, but cannot wait to share with my followers. Also, for ByFouz beauty, some amazing new drops and launches. I am also looking into new channels to make the brand more accessible to everyone. So, it looks like it is going to be a busy year!

HOW THE LOCKDOWN AND THIS WHOLE PANDEMIC HAS AFFECTED SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE?

I think this pandemic has had a positive effect on social media. Everyone is more careful and conscious of their wording and spreading love and positivity to everyone around the world to be more patient and hopeful that things will be back to normal again. Social media is a very powerful tool, and it is incredible to see countries use the digital platforms available to them to spread knowledge and information about social distancing and the importance of it.

WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF YOUR INDUSTRY DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOUR WORK?

People think it’s an easy job, and it’s definitely not. I work 12 to 14 hours a day sometimes with zero social life, but I’ve been extremely lucky to have a supportive family and team to manage my life to become more normal.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU WISH YOU HAD BEEN GIVEN WHEN YOU STARTED OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?

I wish people would have told me to expect zero privacy as well as to have tough skin. If you’re not surrounded by the right people you won’t be very successful.

DID YOU ENCOUNTER ANY NEGATIVITY IN THE INDUSTRY WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED OUT?

Of course! Everyone online is exposed to negativity because not everyone is going to like you, or understand you and that’s fine. I think we shouldn’t take things too personally, at the end of the day everyone has the right to like or dislike people, within reason.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF OUT OF YOUR WORK OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS?

I’m very proud of myself for creating my beauty brand, as it was a dream of mine and having Forbes Middle East list us as the top 10 at our first year is a feeling I cannot even begin to explain. Another project I’m very proud of is my beauty salon – The Real Fouz Beauty because it’s a space where I can actually meet and chat with all the women who pass by. It’s very therapeutic and I get to see my followers in real life, and every time I meet a new one, it’s always as if we’ve known each other for so long!
