Certified Speaker: Moneybagg Yo

Moneybagg Yo is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. Known for his melodic blend of trap and Southern hip-hop music, he has gained recognition for his lyrics that are characterized by their sharpness, a delivery that is often described as mellow, and themes that delve into introspection; he's become frequently lauded as one of the leading voices in contemporary hip-hop.

L’Officiel Arabia: Congratulations on your latest album release Hard to Love! Can you take us behind the scenes and share some insights into your creative process? What inspired the themes explored in this album?

Moneybagg Yo: Many aspects of my life and my career inspired this album. I was gone for two years and during those two years, a lot of things happened in my life that changed me so that really fueled/helped create the music that I am releasing now.

L’O A: Memphis has a rich musical legacy, birthing many iconic artists. How has growing up in this culturally vibrant city influenced your approach to music and storytelling?

MY: Growing up in Memphis has been a major part of shaping my music and storytelling. You know I grew up listening to Gotti and many other legends from here, they all motivated me and inspired my music. It's as if the soul of Memphis flows through my music and my beats. The experiences, the pain, the joy they're all part of my story and Memphis is a part of all that.

L’O A: Your tour ‘Larger than Life’ is generating incredible energy and excitement among fans. Can you share a standout moment or interaction with your audience that truly touched you during the tour?

MY: Going to each city and seeing that my fans truly love me is a standout moment every night. There is no better feeling than listening to a huge crowd rap along to your music and just enjoying every moment of the show.

L’O A: On tour, you have the opportunity to experiment with various looks. What is your go-to outfit or accessory that makes you feel most confident on stage?

MY: I wouldn’t say an accessory would make me feel 100% confident, but I do like to switch it up on tour, my go-to accessories would be the different custom jewelry pieces that I own. I like to switch those up and mix and match them with a good outfit to complete the look.

L’O A: Any must-have fashion items or beauty products you can't travel without during your tours?

MY: Facial Cleaner! A definite must-have when traveling back and forth for shows.

L’O A: What are a few must-have things in your green room, before a show?

MY: Vior Water and Fruit are two things that I always need available before any event or show, it is important to stay hydrated!

L’O A: You delayed your album ‘Hard to Love’ by a few days because Taylor Swift was releasing her album the same day. Did her team reach out to you afterward? Should we expect a Moneybagg Yo x Taylor Swift collaboration in the near future?

MY: Maybe, you never know what the future holds and like I said, I am expanding my horizons. One thing is for sure though, I am ready for it.

L’O A: As your tour continues and your album ‘Hard to Love’ gains momentum, what can your fans expect in terms of upcoming music releases and future creative endeavors?

MY: Just stay tuned I have a lot of things in the works for my album and for my career, that’s as much as I can say without leaking anything.

L’O A: Looking ahead, what other artistic ventures or projects do you have in mind beyond music, and how do you envision your career evolving in the future?

MY: I am always thinking about the future and finding ways to keep expanding my horizons. Besides music, I've got my eye on a few things. I've been exploring fashion and streetwear and have come to realize that it can help me express myself more creatively. I am also interested in getting into film, possibly acting, or producing. I want to bring my unique perspective to different mediums and platforms. As for my career, I see it growing into a multidimensional brand not just as a rapper, but as a cultural influencer, entrepreneur, and someone who keeps pushing boundaries.
